The lighthouse and the marina of Licata
among the city’s most evocative viewpoints
A landmark for boats crossing the Mediterranean Sea and a symbol of the city, the lighthouse of Licata, with its 40 metres of height, remains one of the tallest in Europe and one of the few whose base is at sea level: many lighthouses were in fact built on heights in order to increase their “power”.
The light emitted by the lighthouse of Licata is visible for 21 nautical miles, around 38 km. The lighthouse has a cubic structure and is clad in white masonry. Its 40 metres of height are reached by a staircase of around 170 steps, not including the external ones.
Designed by Antonino Davanteri, it was built in 1895 and takes the name “San Giacomo” lighthouse from the castle of the same name that once stood nearby, one of the most important castles in Sicily, destroyed between 1870 and 1929 for the construction of the commercial port.

The Tourist Marina in Licata
With more than 1,500 berths for boats up to 70 metres, in a safe basin with excellent services, Marina di Cala del Sole is an integrated system of sea, waterfront and surrounding area: a place rich in green, pedestrian and cycle areas, with elegant commercial and entertainment spaces, two residential villages, and just a few metres from Licata’s Baroque historic centre.
