Villa Giuliana
The history of Villa Giuliana
a Liberty-style villa in Licata between sky and sea, today a 4-star superior relais with restaurant
The spaces of Relais Villa Giuliana tell its fascinating history, making it the soul of this perfect romantic retreat in Licata, Sicily.
Among noble and ancient remains and atmospheres from another time, an important past combines with all the comforts of a modern hospitality structure with 4-star superior services in the province of Agrigento. The echo of this history is visible in the exterior architectural elements preserved by the villa, but also in the interiors, where fine furniture dialogues with period objects and unique original pieces.
The historic residence stands on a sea-view hill divided into several terraces, one of which is used for banquet settings for elegant events and weddings. Over the years, Relais Villa Giuliana has become a refined venue for celebrating special moments, thanks to the magical atmosphere of the place and the historic villa, enriched by an evocative winter garden and the refined fine dining restaurant La Bottega.

AN IMPORTANT PAST
The Liberty-style villa of the early 1900s
The ancient building, set within a true park of Liberty-style villas, is part of a valuable ensemble of bourgeois and noble palaces built on the hills overlooking the sea of Licata in the early 1900s. In that historical period, the city of Licata experienced flourishing commercial development thanks to sulphur refining, which started from the inland mines in the territories of Riesi and Caltanissetta. Thanks to this thriving and profitable trade, a flow of wealth became the privilege of some bourgeois families, including the Liotta family, timber merchants, from whom the ownership of Villa Giuliana originates.

THE ENTREPRENEURIAL PROJECT
Quality hospitality and dining
Relais Villa Giuliana is today a benchmark for quality hospitality and dining in the Agrigento area and in Sicily. The project owes its success to the entrepreneurial experience of its protagonists, Mario Rizzo and partners, who from the very beginning decided to place guests and their wishes at the centre of their work. The inspiration began with the acquisition and restoration of Villa Giuliana in 2017. It was easy to fall in love with this place of dazzling beauty and to be guided by the desire to enhance its strategic position, overlooking what in antiquity was the cradle of Greek civilisation.
